    THAT 1570/5173 Digital Microphone Preamp Circuit

    DESCRIPTION

    The THAT1570 and THAT5173 ICs enable digitally controlled microphone preamplifier applications with unprecedented performance. Operating on maximum ±17V supplies, the chipset accepts pro audio input levels (+27dBu max) without an input pad. Gain is adjustable from 0dB to 60dB in 3dB increments. The 5173’s built-in zero-crossing detector and other patent-pending techniques for reducing zipper noise enable very smooth and silent gain changes. A differential servo reduces output offsets to less than 1.75 mV.

    Four general purpose outputs on the 5173 can be connected to a variety of peripheral functions, e.g. input pad, phantom power switches, signal routing switches, LED indicators, etc. Separating the analog mic pre front end (THAT1570) from the digital functions and switched resistor ladder (THAT5173) allows each IC to be optimized for high performance.

    1570/5173 Digitally-Controlled Mic Preamp Demo Board - The THAT 1570/5173 Digitally-Controlled Mic Preamp Demo Board (US$250) allows developers to evaluate the performance of the THAT1570 / THAT5173 chipset. The demo board provides a balanced audio input on a Neutrik "combo" connector with 48V phantom power, and a balanced audio output on XLR and ¼" TRS connectors. The supplied graphical user interface (GUI) controls all functions in the 5173 chip via USB. A prototyping area is available for adding or modifying circuitry. See the 5173 DEMO Datasheet for more information.


    1570 and 5173 Surface Mount Adapter Boards - For our integrated circuits which are only available in surface mount packages THAT Corporation offers adapter boards which allow one of these surface-mount ICs to interface to a circuit board via traditional thru-hole mounting. These adapters make it easy for a design engineer to evaluate our surface-mount products on a prototype board without having to employ SMT technology. Adapter boards are available to qualified applicants.
